Requested Character(s): Wang Zhi, Tang Fan
I'll be real here, Wang Zhi is my favorite favorite. Most important to me is Wang Zhi getting what he wants, even if Tang Fan isn't entirely pleased with it... but I love the way they are in flirty, giddy lockstep with one another through most of the series despite their moral differences. Exploring Wang Zhi's depravity alongside his soft and even sweet parts is my favorite thing. I love to see him pamper Tang Fan! I love to see him in finery! I love to see Tang Fan smitten with him even though Wang Zhi is notoriously insufferable. They LIKE each other!
💡 Tang Fan likes Wang Zhi and likes being close to him but also plays at being uncomfortable about it, with his "don't give me chills" when Wang Zhi says Tang Fan knows him better than anyone, and his "nothing good comes of being missed by you." I like the imagine that line about not being missed as a promise to write often and visit at least a few times a year. Something from one of their visits or sending letters back and forth, or Wang Zhi imagining things that would really give Tang Fan chills... also good.
💡I loved Tang Fan situational crossdressing, so Fake Marriage Plot, where Tang Fan pretends to be Wang Zhi's bride For Sleuthing Reasons while Wang Zhi dances on the knife's edge between having everything his heart desires and the endless suspicion that admitting he longs for what seems impossible will lead only to open mockery.
💡 I'm kind of obsessed with Wang Zhi's body and his experience of it. What are Wang Zhi's desires like? How vulnerable does he feel when he has to admit his own wants? Is Wang Zhi even comfortable with the idea of others sexualizing his body? I could see him being really into a lot of things that aren't necessarily about sex and it being a way he passes his time -- like gossiping in the brothel is about being seen there and making a show of enjoying himself, having "a man's taste" whatever that means to him, and also his realization when Tang Fan TOUCHES HIS FACE like the intimacy there seemed to scare him.
💡 Hand-feeding, mutual care-giving, meal-sharing... the way they feed one another's minds and play together. They can be so soft and also very, well ... Tang Fan is a brat and Wang Zhi likes to feel his power over others, I'm just saying I love the idea of domestic bickering as a part of the game they're playing together.
💡 Tang Fan, that romance writer, clearly has a vivid imagination, but Wang Zhi can still make him fluster and blush, even from miles away. Jia Kui on one end and Sui Zhou's household gang dealing with their note-passing back and forth could be very fun.
경이로운 소문 | The Uncanny Counter (TV)
Requested Character(s): Shin Hyeok Woo
A good friend got into this show with me and promptly moved on, meanwhile I'm still kind of obsessed with Hyeok-Woo whole character arc and his shifting dynamics with So-Mun. Some things I'd love to see explored:
💡 I'm so curious about Hyeok-Woo's witnessing abuse his dad directed at he and his mom, how he grew up terrified and powerless at home and the way that shapes how he tries to be away from home and who he thinks he has to be in order to be safe.
💡 This guy is a mess! Is he floundering around, falling back into old habits, or managing to hang by his fingernails onto sanity? Is he supported by anyone? So many of his former connections were through his dad's power and influence. The people who don't drop him now because of the news of his dad, are they after something? Do they really care about him? With all his paranoia and anxiety, his fear and trauma, his violent impulses getting in the way, is it a relief to be scruffed or shaken, or held down and held accountable, by So-Mun?
💡 His cry for help and how he's got a new honest part of himself that doesn't want to be evil on a human level, beyond the metaphysical terror of demon influence or control made a huge impact on me. I can't get enough of how fragile Hyeok-Woo seems in the morning, tense and timid and ready to fall apart over the warmth of So-Mun's family and the fact that he's even allowed to ask So-Mun of all people for help. More of Hyeok-Woo interacting with So-Mun's grandmother or making amends with So-Mun's friends, not just because he wants So-Mun to feel he was worth saving, but because it feels so much better and more rewarding. If it DOESN'T feel better or rewarding, that's also interesting.
💡 Hyeok-Woo post-canon wrestling with feelings for/about So-Mun-- admiration, gratitude, shame, indebtedness, guilt, and a sort of neediness, especially with some memory complications caused by the rules of the afterlife, exploring Hyeok-Woo's emotional and mental state, ripping apart the brutal little turd he was and reforming himself around that one belief that he didn't want to be who he was or where he was and maybe So-Mun could understand and help, even if Hyeok-Woo doesn't deserve it all sound amazing to me.
💡 When and why did he start to target So-Mun? Did Hyeok-Woo choose him only because he didn't feel afraid of the kid with the cane fighting back? Was he repressing feelings for the timid, solidly-built guy who got on his nerves for being Visibly Weak and still kind?
💡 So-Mun's kindness I think could almost be a spear that Hyeok-Woo feels staked on, but if that doesn't vibe with you, I'm excited to see where you take him and what you want to delve into between Hyeok-Woo and his home life, his school life, and So-Mun.
악마판사 | The Devil Judge (TV)
Requested Character(s): Kang Yo Han, Kim Ga On
Okay so I'm about halfway through this show so far after picking it up on recommendation and it is WILD absolutely unhinged I'm having a great time. I'll be done way before stories are due, and I'm pretty certain I know who the big bad is already so don't worry about spoilers or anything. I love Elijah, too, I don't want folks to think I'm not interested in her as part of their little family, but I'm currently full of intense thoughts about Kang Yo-Han and his whole relationship with his older brother and his dad and his complicated feelings as a result of meeting Ga-On and what that must FEEL LIKE for him. The way Ga-On seems to notice increasing emotions and agitation in Yo-Han and can make him cry at the sight of his face, but also is manipulated by Yohan's emotionality and KNOWS it and the way Yo-Han tells him he falters to sort of push him away before he bursts into tears in the room where he got beaten regularly just... what the fuck, this show is killing me. What was this homosexual menace thinking with the whole castration episode ending with prison rape jokes? I think that really sets the bar for level of insane plots you can come up with. HAVE SOME PROMPTS
💡 I love messy soulmate plots. Please. I'd love if there's a component part of that to why Yo-Han was tormented by his dad (since he's "a look-alike"), or why he is so surprised by Ga-On's tattoo, because ooh yes twist the knife and make it weird
💡 I also love supernatural/metaphysical plots like what if Ga-On like, absorbed a part of Isaac when puberty hit him with the Glow Up? Weird flashbacks and strong feelings he doesn't quite understand aside from the weird mix of empathy and revulsion he has going on for Yo-Han in the first quarter of the series could totally be influenced by something like that. Ga-On's changing ideas about Yo-Han's relationship with Isaac would be interesting to explore -- especially since he is DEFINITELY CATCHING all the sexual tension vibes that Yo-Han puts into his eyes when they stare at each other.
💡 Mutual obsession is my jam, this thing where they're watching each other watch each other and openly working on each other's trust is so delicious. I love Yo-Han exploring how far he can go with people, what their limits are and where his own fall. Who does he want to be for Isaac's sake, and how does Ga-On's face influence him? He knows that was the goal, the whole purpose of Ga-On being sent after him, is because he looks like that and his target knows how weak Yo-Han is to Isaac. But I also love Yo-Han obsessing over all the ways Ga-On is different, and Ga-On feeling some kind of way about not knowing for sure if Yo-Han is vibing with him or if it's just because of Isaac's presence/abscence.
Give me something emotionally complicated! What is this antagonistic affection doing to them? Do you wanna do something time travel-y? Dark? I'm here for it in this canon. You could give me PWP AU where Ga-On
finds beat-up plant-monster Yo-Han, takes him home and helps him grow big and strong, only to get a tender tendrilling, if you know what I mean (awapuhi ginger.gif), almost anything goes.
ETA 10/29: I have finished the show! I was correct about my guesses about who was involved where doing what! This show has a slick veneer of bisexual energy, but wow did Ga-On's kiss and confession with Soo-Hyun feel like comp-het panic at the realization of who Ga-On is himself. Like yes, Yo-Han's influence is part of it, but Ga-On really blamed Yo-Han for his own drive to get the evidence! The moment he had with K about losing himself felt so much to me like K was talking about losing yourself in love, like the discovery of new aspects of yourself you don't necessarily like, moreso than a loss of selfhood but I love the play of a personal mask or identity slipping under the reality of experience. K! His whole thing with Yo-Han, there's something lurking under there that I would love to see Ga-On try to dig into. Post-canon I'd love something about international visits, or Yo-Han and Elijah's return. How does Ga-On handle distance? The jam-packed yearning in their hugs, his fear for Yo-Han's safety!!! This whole show was a ride.
아다마스 | Adamas (TV)
Requested Character(s): ANY of Choi Taesung, Ha Wooshin, Lee Jun Kyung, Song Soohyeon
This show has so much to play with in the space between the scenes, dynamics to explore and secrets to exploit or protect. I found every member of the cast compelling, so I'm requesting anyone in the tagset! Some things I'd love to see explored:
💡 Ha Woo-Shin - This troublemaking over-thinker is a menace and I love it. His sense of self-worth balanced with Soo-Hyeon's self-doubts and the way he takes responsibility onto himself are so good. All the things he knows or suspects, his methodical approach, his absolute shock and horror over what he finds made routine inside the Kwon's compound and his wrestling with it led me to wonder about why he so fiercely needs to protect his older brother. I'm also interested in more of his backstory researching for Persona non Grata and his admiration and knowledge of Choi Tae-Sung in particular. I like how Woo-Shin has giant photos of himself all over the house, but are any of them hidden Soo-Hyeonnies?
💡 THE TWINS! I know that it's because of the fact that there are not 2 of Ji Sung, but the fact that the twins so rarely touch one another sparked an idea in me that I am just going to throw out there: I got to thinking, what if it isn't just because of their dad's death, Soo-Hyeon's relative immaturity to Woo-Shin, or interpersonal tension between them that keeps them distant when they are so devoted to protecting one another? What if skinship or physical intimacy between the twins is too intense for them, or one or both of them has feelings for the other that aren't brotherly and they've both silently or not-silently agreed to never mention? Whether it's resentment, disappointment, frustration, desire, or some combination of all of those, it's fascinating. I love that Woo-Shin refuses to play baby brother, that Soo-Hyeon wants the deference, and that really everything they're doing is for both their own and each other's sake. Give me all the complicated, sometimes icky, sometimes beautiful feelings.
💡 Song Soo-Hyeon - I love how much like a fighty little Pomeranian he is, his defiance and persistence and his weird morals. I love how easily he connects with people, like Kong Dae-Chul and Agent Baek, and the way Seo-Hee is like both him and Woo-Shin in their feisty to the point of abrasive glory. The threat of entrapment from the SID was something I really thought the show would do more with after the death of Lee Jun-Ho. Focusing specifically on the other nominated characters, I love how Choi Tae-Sung just sees Soo-Hyeon getting physical and just bodily intercepts him and holds on... like when did you get that familiar with each other not to pay attention to this? Is it carry-over from dealing with Woo-Shin or Woo-Shin's being the connection that makes this tolerable? I'm also into more of Soo-Hyeon dealing with Lee Jun-Kyoung in that Older Bros Who Love Their Lil Bros Death Spiral UST Thing and the way Soo-Hyeon was led by Kang Hyuk-Pil. Deadly hate-sex? Kidnapping and desperate negotiation?
💡 Lee Jun-Kyoung - okay let's get into the cocky ass murder jock's head, because I kind of love him? The way he weeps for his brother, the way he's so casually confident that he forgets to be afraid of Sun, the political backstabbing second in command who sends his precious baby bro Jun-Ho into the field! I just think there's so much meat to this guy! We never really get to see that much of him dealing with Choi Tae-Sung, who is ostensibly gunning for his job, digging into his backstory before he was brought into the Security Team. How many secrets does he have hidden away, and what's the cause behind his greed/need for the Kwon's money and favor? He wanted his brother to be safe... my dude... and channeling all that love into hatred of Soo-Hyeon and desire to destroy Woo-Shin in front of him... how many ways could Jun-Kyoung's malice manifest? I love some messy, emotional villains. Violence and desire and rage all mixed up... just, if you're making me a cocktail of this guy, I'll have a strong pour of both desperation and depravity.
💡 Choi Tae-Sung - MY DUDE, my favorite guy from the moment he walked on-screen! My thirst for Heo Sung-Tae is ridiculous. He brings an insane amount of charisma to every role. I love to see how furious he is with Woo-Shin, how they come to be reluctant allies before Woo-Shin calls him out on being A Good Person like "hah hah you can't kill me" was another cupid's arrow through my heart. He is under so much stress! Give me his fear, the long nights and the terrible things he's prepared himself for, the way he knows he's a bastard. His lifeline in the woods, his hunting skill, his dynamic with Mr Kim and Mr Park, and then with the Chairman, Ms Kwon are all great pre-canon topics! I'd also love something about the whole climactic showdown and the reveal of SID's mole. I'm also curious about Tae-Sung's dynamic with Woo-Shin once they're out of the palace so to speak. Tae-Sung and Woo-Shin Fake-Out Make-Out?
괴물 | Beyond Evil (TV)
Requested Character(s): ANY of Han Joo Won, Lee Dong Sik, Lee Su Yeon, Oh Ji Hoon, Oh Ji Hwa, Park Jung Je, Yoo Jae Yi
💡 Lee Dong-Sik - Truly the Manyang Bicycle, everyone looks good on him! Shin Ha-Kyun as always nailed his performance and watching all of his choices was such a delight. Getting into the adorable folds of his wrinkles with the level of character exploration I'd love to see of this man. He's a DEEP WELL is what I'm saying. If you're more interested in smut than character studies or missing scenes, please feel free to write the character(s) of your choice lovingly obsessing over him. It's a great question actually, how is this guy everyone's little meow meow? How is he so breedable? Kang Jin-Mok isn't the only one who wants to get up in his walls, damn.
💡 Han Ju-Won - Ju-Won is a menace, why is he so unlikeable and yet so pathetic that I adore him as much as Dong-Sik does? He's huge, he sulks, he cries beautiful tears just like Dong-Sik does, and the way he cherishes Dong-Sik just gets to me. He begins the series so set in the idea of Dong-Sik as his Nemesis who he Must Destroy, for Dong-Sik to be so relieved and fond of him as the Savior who will Destroy His Life just kills me. BUT OUTSIDE OF THE MAIN RELATIONSHIP OF THE SERIES, Ju-Won's mess of a self (or lack of sense thereof) is worth digging into. I'm fascinated by his meticulousness, his experience of being sent away and holding others at arms length and his depressing apartment. I can't help but imagine really dramatic classical symphonic music is playing in his head at all times (Dong-Sik is probably rapid switching back and forth between the pink panther and please destroy me or smth).
💡 The way Ju-Won and Dong-Sik just fell in love with each other during this show absolutely guts me every time. The empathy they have for one another is gorgeous -- the way Dong-Sik says, "he can't become dirty like me," while Ju-Won is desperate for Dong-Sik's suffering to end by sacrificing himself is killer. They'll go to such extremes for each other! At first, sure, they did a lot of posturing because they were figuring each other out, and Ju-Won seemed disgusted and fascinated and compelled all at once. I think about how Ju-Won's father said he was someone who couldn't take a hand reaching out to him, and would be repulsed instead, but he and Dong-Sik end up clutching to one another. My big takeaway from the ending was that no matter where Ju-Won goes Manyang is his home and Dong-Sik is his family. Every stage of their love blooming is magic to me. Ju-Won grossed out over Dong-Sik eating, Ju-Won trembling with the gun in his hands and Dong-Sik leaning into the barrel, and all the different ways Dong-Sik looks at Ju-Won. Future adventures? Early-canon antagonistic tension-filled moments? Mutual sexual discovery or exploration? Darkfic? Foxboy and Wolfboy AUs?
💡 Lee Su-Yeon - I'm curious about Ju-Won's mom, her depression and alcoholism in the face of Han Kihwan's general awfulness and Ju-Won's anxiety and aloofness from a young age. She calls for him, but he's so afraid of his dad and she's probably been unpredictable. I'd love to know more about her presence (and absence) in Ju-Won's mental landscape as well as her life under the same roof as Ju-Won and after her departure. I think it's really interesting how Dong-Sik seeks out his own mom to explain how he can't let Ju-Won ruin himself, and then at the end tells Ju-Won what she used to say to him about eating well to be happy without worrying about success, so I wonder what Su-Yeon might have said to him, and whether Ju-Won relates to his mother, whose outstretched hand he couldn't grasp, and Dong-Sik, who he eventually choses to embrace.
💡 Yoo Jae-Yi - She's so sharp, and so tired. I love her friendship with Dong-Sik, the way they trust and relate to each other, the fat silences full of the sense they've talked about all the heavy things on their minds before, so they quietly focus on tasks. I absolutely think Jae-Yi has feelings for Ji-Hwa, but I'm not sure if Ji-Hwa is friendly but aloof, flattered and curious, or just not sure she should let herself be swept off her feet by someone who has been almost as self-destructive as Dong-Sik in their desperation for closure. I get a vibe Jae-Yi is struggling with her drinking, if you want to go there.
💡 Oh Ji-Hwa - How is she processing everything that's happened with Dong-Sik and Jeong-Je in that little timeskip before the epilogue? What concerns is she carrying around beyond her job, Ji-Hoon's mental health/love life and her tragic besties? I love Lee Chang-Jin and the fact that they're exes, but he's still pursuing her. They have a wild chemistry, and I imagine their bedframe broke often, claw marks in the walls intense. I like their relationship, in addition to shipping Ji-Hwa with Jae-Yi post-canon -- maybe Ji-Hwa is fretting a little about once again falling for an impulsive fixer-upper with impulsivity issues and a passionate streak... not that she or Jae-Yi would enjoy that particular comparison. I'd be happy with either of those relationships, or both, being explored, if you aren't interested in digging into the three musketeers before and during their time of secrets.
💡 Oh Ji-Hoon - Not a stalker, he says desperately, ensuring that I love him and want him to be a precious miserable little creep all the time. But for real, I love Ji-Hoon as an awkward sweetheart with a hard edge. He seems harmless but then his fangs glint or you realize how big he is and it's different. His attention feels too much like her dad's for Min-Jeong to like it and he's happy watching but that in itself can be harrowing. His relationship with Dong-Sik I'd also love more of, his attempts to get along and oh yeah do you think he failed the police exam because of the psych part? is he kind of dense? Both? What's his life with his sister like? I can ship this kid with just about anyone. I also would love to explore more of his creepy side, maybe in terms of that uncomfortable similarity to Min-Jeong's dad or with Jeong-Je and Ju-Won in the Dong-Sik-Watchers' Club.
💡 Park Jeong-Je - Please give me all the whump, from when he was "in the states"/forcibly institutionalized and given all the anti-psychotics to scramble his brains and gaslight him to compound his sexual neuroses with deer already stuck in there from his blocked-out childhood like THE REVEAL THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE EXTENT OF HER ABUSE augh I'm dying I can't get over how tragic his love with Dong-Sik is, the load of the secrets they're willing to endure in order to support one another despite everything must seem like a deep ache in Jeong-Je's chest. I love how Ju-Won and Jeong-Je do this sizing one another up in relation to Dong-Sik, too. What's his relationship with Ji-Hoon like, as one of Ji-Hwa's best friends and his superior in the force and, lol, in gazing longingly over at Dong-Sik. I'd love to see some creepy apprenticeship dynamic with Jeong-Je and Ji-Hoon. How is Jeong-Je gonna manage post-canon? I think Dong-Sik can't leave him alone. I wonder how much Ji-Hwa wrestles with what she sort-of-knew and what she definitely didn't, if they talk about it together, or what. I'll take hallucinatory day-dreamscapes, all those years of secret suspicion, the neediness-- enmeshed Jeong-Je is my favorite Jeong-Je.
ETA 10/29: I CANNOT BELIEVE I FORGOT TO SEED ANYTHING ABOUT JEONGJE AND JUWON'S FEELING EACH OTHER OUT rip they are so similar it's like Dongsikie has a type or something oof
